Message for February 2022
Paul's Letter to the Philippians, 4:6-7: "In every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Welcome to American Classic Recordings
American Classic Recordings (ACR) is an independent, artist-operated record label producing professional-quality recordings by people who live in America and who love our country. Our earliest releases feature country, Gospel, and popular music, including spoken word (a.k.a. hip hop and rap).
We want to honor God, America, and all the world by bringing under one label the most uplifting new music of our times. A member of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), this label participates in the creative energy connecting artists, engineers, and entrepreneurs in this great land. Our founder is a member of The Recording Academy, sponsor of the Grammy Awards.
Every release that bears the ACR label will show evidence of the Holy Spirit at work through words and music. Our artists tell the truth as they know it and truth always leads to Truth, glory be to God.
ACR is always happy to hear from friends old and new, but at this time, we cannot accept any new artists. Also, please forgive us if we fall behind in corresponding with you. First we need to fulfill the promises we have made to artists around the country who have joined our label.
We hope that some day sales reach a point where we can give back to all artists or their favorite charities. We want to be faithful, like our Lord.

Bach's O Sacred Head Sung by Joe Warfield
"O sacred Head now wounded
with grief and shame weighed down
now scornfully surrounded
with thorns thy only crown..."
How many of us have sung this solemn Lenten song in anticipation of Our Lord's Passion? Now for the first time ACR artist Joe Warfield has teamed up with arranger Fred Bogert and Briarpatch Productions of Louisville Kentucky to deliver this mournful tune with deep sincerity and transcendent beauty.
Please look it up in our Sacred Music Store.
And while you are at it, browse our other religious offerings.
(Those of you who venerate the quiet strength of St. Joseph will appreciate "Regular Joe" by Freddie Johnson).
God bless you all!

All "One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus" Proceeds for Remainder of 2013 To Go To American Red Cross
On May 20, 2013, a violent tornado hit the state of Oklahoma. The American Red Cross was there to help that very day, as it always is. Days later, as "One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus" producer Jarvis Smith was praying for the victims, the message came to him that the people of Oklahoma and the nation must persevere in faith "one day at a time...one day at a time...one day at a time..." The insight persisted...and Jarvis thought, what if American Classic Recordings could donate all proceeds from this song to the American Red Cross? He called owner (signed below) with the idea and she agreed to donate ALL proceeds from any download or stream of this song received from May 21 throughout the remainder of 2013 to this great cause.
Therefore, we announce the following: On the first of every month, starting June 1, 2013, and ending January 1, 2014, she will mail a check to the American Red Cross. This site will announce the total donated each month. There are many versions of this wonderful song but ours is found in the ACR Music Store, which shows a link to itunes and to CD Baby. (But even if you download going directly to itunes, CD Baby, or other channels, the label will donate that money too.) We also urge our listeners to donate directly to the American Red Cross as well. Let us know about your donations (write to alexandra@americanclassicrecordings.com) and we will report that too on this site.
Please bear in mind that the American Red Cross not only helps with disaster relief but also supports our men and women on the battlefield. So please support and pray for the American Red Cross and all active and veteran military on this Memorial Day weekend and beyond.
Sincerely and prayerfully,
Alexandra R. Lajoux for American Classic Recordings May 27, 2013

Scriptural Basis for the Label
“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.” (Psalm 100)
Joy in the Lord will infuse all of the music this label creates, in every mood and genre.
“Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.”
(Matthew 15:16)
This label will help musical and visual artists show their light to others.
“The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more.” (Matthew 25: 16 - 17, in the Parable of the Talents)
We will strive to enable investing stewards to gain a good return on their investment of talent, time, and/or treasure.
The founders are believing Christians who feel a deep kinship with all who share a faith in the God of Abraham. We respect freedom of worship and freedom of thought, welcoming co-artists of all varieties and shades of belief and searching. Yet it is the Holy Spirit Who shall guide this endeavor. All song lyrics will be consistent with Christ-centered values, while respecting the artist's need for personal and honest expression of the truth as the artist sees it.

More About the Company and Our Artists
The founders of this label are recording artists who wish to produce excellent music out of the heart of America. We seek to serve the needs of uniquely gifted artists who may lack the funds, contacts, and/or experience to make recordings on their own, including:
• Singers
• Instrumentalists
• Songwriters
Many stars have added their talent to this enterprise as advisors, composers, featured artists, or songwriters.
For a list of all our artists and friends, please visit the ASSOCIATES module at the top of this site.
Some ACR artists are getting airplay in retail establishments.
Have you ever been reaching for a bag of apples and heard an unfamilar song playing in the background? It might be one of ours! Songs that get played on the radio are from big labels that charge a lot of money for playing rights. We small independent labels offer our music at much more affordable rates through services such as EOSmusic.com, a provider of satellite radio station subscriptions. EOS-sponsored music is piped into retail spaces lile modern-day Muzak. American Classic Recordings has had more than 1,000 song plays in nearly 100 locations through EOS.
(Each play gets a small fraction of a penny. Total sales do not add up to more than $20 yet, but it’s still good to know that folks are hearing our music while going through their daily lives.)
Here are some of the locations that played our music (songs written and sung by your fearless founder).

ACR Releases Redeemed by Lt. Jeramy McClellan
Heaven comes a little closer through the words of this inspiring song, which will debut at CDBaby.com before the end of October. Recorded in Kuwait and perfected here back home, the song resounds with a soldier's strength and a believer's faith.
Jeramy writes:
***
I recorded the song with Lieutenant Colonel Richard Medrano in Kuwait
during February 2012. Funny story is that he kept pushing me to
record but I didn't believe it would turn out well. After we started
though we were like machines. We couldn't believe how well a simple
recording turned out.
This man is truly an unbelievable officer and friend. Although he had
to be at work at seven every morning it was nothing for him to stay up
with me until one o'clock recording and mixing. His tenacity and
perseverance truly got us through the entire process.
We used a Zoom R24 digital recorder where we started with a drum beat and then I plugged whatever instrument in the R24 and began recording tracks on top of each other. We laid out tracks for a digital beat, guitar, piano, strings, bass, lead vocal track, and a background vocal track—all by me. We then mixed it as we listened to it through a speaker.
We hope it is a blessing to all who hear it.

REDEEMED
By Lt. Jeramy McClellan
Oh how sweet the sound
Of the forgiven and redeemed.
It rises high above
Everlasting love.
If I die before I wake
I know my soul the Lord will take.
Because it belongs to Him.
It doesn’t belong to me.
Oh how sweet the melody
That sets me free.
Oh how sweet the song
Oh how sweet the sound
Of the redeemed.
There’s no time to wander now
‘Cause I know my place is with You.
And I can stand alone.
‘Cause You are on Your throne.
There’s no high there’s no low
I can go to escape Your grace.
And I stand tall today.
‘Cause you are all that I need.

Blessed Assurance Released January 1, 2012
From the earliest times, people of faith have joined their hearts to heaven through music. Hymns kept the Apostles encouraged from the earliest days after Christ's resurrection (still mysterious) and through subsequent years of persecution and prejudice. Deeply believing singers such as the late, great Mahalia Jackson have turned such simple old songs into amazing experiences.
We hope you enjoy BLESSED ASSURANCE, a collection of hymns in the Jackson tradition sung with true faith by Alexandra Lajoux and Chris Dennard, featuring stirring keys by Jarvis Smith, endlessly creative guitar by Jeff Severson, with other vocal and instrumental contributions from leading artists.
The title hymn sounds forth the lyrics by Fanny J. Crosby, a blind composer; Old Rugged Cross is dedicated to the timeless George Beverly Shae of the Billy Graham crusades. We offer two versions of O Happy Day - the original from the 18th century and the jazzier Hawkins arrangement, as fresh today as it was in the 1960s when the Hawkins arrangement first set the world on fire. Precious Lord, written by Thomas A. Dorsey after the loss of his entire family in a tragic accident, speaks plaintively for itself. We close with Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, featuring Smith keys and Severson strings not to be missed.
Please visit our music page and click to hear samples of our tracks and read more about the album, dedicated forever to the soul of Stella Swingle Reed.

Joe Warfield Sings of The Way We Be
For a truly inspiring musical experience, listen to THE WAY WE BE, featuring Joe Warfield of Louisville Kentucky (and, in past years, the general Washington, DC, area). The album has five tracks, each good, beautiful, and true in its own way.
Here's a little information on Joe. Born in Louisville, KY, Joe began singing at the age of five with the Galilee Baptist Church Children’s Choir, where his mother served as Minister of Music. Joe accepted Christ as his Savior at the early age of seven.
Joe has blessed various congregations with his annointed voice
throughout various cities and town along the east coast. Joe is known
locally in the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. He sang with the late great Rev. Dr. Donald Vails as part of the Young Adult Choir at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church located in Fort Washington, MD, as well as nationally known artist Willie Blunt. Joe always dreamed about singing at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, and in 2003 that dream came true as he performed for the congregation as part of an Inter-Faith conference where he encouraged so many people through song.
Joe attended George Mason University, where he received a B.A in
Communications and went on to a rewarding career as a producer for various television shows. Joe currently resides in Louisville, KY, where he attends Zion Baptist Church and continues to minister through music at various churches and programs throughout the area. Joe is a true believer of “Only what you do for Christ will last.”
You can find his album on cdbaby.com by going to cdbaby.com and typiing in Warfield. Be prepared to be lifted, Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

Johnny Owens Brings Real Country to ACR
One of the latest and greatest additions to the American Classic Recordings lineup is Johnny Owens, who hails from Crescent City Florida.
Johnny is a Nashville Recording Artist. His music is a mix of styles. Rock,Country, and Blues. All carry a "Good News" message!
All blended into one unique sound called Devil Stompin' Music!
Johnny has a TV show which is aired in two locations, TV 27 in Jacksonville Florida, and KLHU TV in Las Vegas. His show is about to become nationwide!
His new ACR single combines two right-minded songs...one about the joys of havin' a dog in the back of a truck -- yeah! -- the other says it's high time to get right with the man upstairs.
Johnny puts it plain and true, and puts you in a good mood while he does it. Come listen! Go to our music page for a link to his album. For more about Johnny, see the music links at the end of our home page.

"More Than a Regular Joe" Hails Fatherhood of Joseph
Freddie Johnson has just released a two-song single with American Classic Recordings. "More than a Regular Joe" praises Joseph, the adoptive father of Jesus, known as Saint Joseph by Catholics. "Crosses" expresses the truth we all know: crosses are "for bearing, not just for wearing." To hear a sample of these wonderful songs, visit http://cdbaby.com/cd/fjohnson

SINGER/SONGWRITER LUANNE HUNT TOPS INDIE.COM CHART
IN JANUARY 2008
Luanne Hunt, an acclaimed singer/songwriter in the Americana and Christian genres, has continued to wow fans since signing a recording contract with the Fairfax, VA-based record label American Classic Recordings, a unit of Alexis & Co. Music Studio, LLC.
The Southern California resident’s CD “Breaking Through” released on the label November 1, 2007. The project features eight original tunes, as well as covers of the 1772 hymn “There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood,” and the 1968 Simon and Garfunkle hit “Scarborough Fair.”
“Breaking Through” was produced by Eric Uglum, who has worked with Alison Krauss, Ron Block, Cherryholmes, Nickel Creek, Sara Watkins, Stuart Duncan and other bluegrass and Americana artists.
“Luanne Hunt has inspired thousands with the touching beauty of her voice and spirit. I am so happy that she is getting the recognition she deserves,” said Alexandra Lajoux, ACR founder.
...In the early 2000’s, Luanne ventured into the recording studio to produce “Lost In Your Love,” a CD of 10 self-penned Christian songs. The project garnered rave reviews from critics and fans.
“After listening to Luanne’s beautiful CD, all I can say is ‘Wow!” said recording artist Al Jarreau.
Riding on the success of “Lost In Your Love,” Hunt released four more independent CDs: “I’m So Happy,” “Moving God, Moving Mountains!” “Chapters and Verse,” and “He Was There.” Various singles from all of the projects have received airplay on radio stations in the United States and Canada. Additionally, “I’m So Happy!” has become a fan favorite on the Internet with nearly 2,000 downloads.

Joy ruled when the gifted choirs of Hunter Memorial A.M.E. Church and First A.M.E. Church joined together at Cue Studios Joe Warfield (songwriter with BMI) and Doris Thomas (President of the First A.M.E., Alexandria, choir), with the welcome help of Gospel artist John Tillery. What fun it was to sing praises to the Lord! Click on the picture to feel the Spirit! Praise Continues
American Classic Recordings has sponsored a continuation of the Day of Praise project, featuring many notable Gospel musicians local to the Washington, DC, area.
The more recent maxi-single WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS/HE IS GREAT became available on CDBaby.com in January 2009--an historic time as we celebrated a New Year, an historic Presidential Inauguration, and the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Lord words in mysterious ways, His wonders to achieve. Connections began when Wesley Robinson, a founding Artist of the label, introduced ACR management (Alexandra Lajoux, BMI) to the First African Methodist Episcopal (FAME) Choir of Alexandria Virginia, headed by Doris Thomas, visionary president; and directed by gifted composer, arranger, and singer Joe Warfield (ASCAP).
These four joined the chorus along with other singers from FAME as well as Woodstream Church (MD), Ebenezer AME, Hunter Memorial Baptist (MD), to be led by the best Executive Producer: The Holy Spirit!
The first two songs to be released on the album were the ones directed by Brother Joe: What a Friend We Have in Jesus (the beloved old hymn by Joseph Scriven and Charles Converse) and He is Great (by Alexandra Lajoux). Sister Doris organized and helped to direct all rehearsals.
The CD features singers affiliated with various Gospel choirs in the greater Washington, DC, metropolitan area, including:
FAME Choir
First A.M.E. Church, Alexandria, VA
Charisma Canty, Octavia Davis, Denzsel Goodlin, Shirley Jones, Robert Maddox, Gayle McMahon, Romell Sankoh, Younger Taplah, Doris Thomas, Connie Walker, Joe Warfield, William Whitfield III, and Felix Wilson.
Woodstream Choir
Woodstream Baptist Church, MItchellville, MD
Roxanne Anderson, Rose Lewis, Violet Stith, Sheila Walter, and Sheila Williams.

and Jimmy C. Russell
Also featuring:
Vanessa Hester and Wesley Robinson, Ebenezer AME Church, Fort Washington, MD
Charisma Wooten, noted Missionary, Refreshing Spring Church of God in Christ, Riverdale MD.
Alexandra Lajoux, St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church, Fairfax, VA
Recorded in Falls Church Virginia at Cue Recording and Skyline Recording Studios.
Mixed and mastered by Keith Burrell of Cue.

Blizard and Bishop Rap with God!
Rappin' with God, featuring The Young Ones, is here at last!
These two talented brothers joined ACR in 2007, and their single album rocketed out the first week of January 2008. (We were aiming for New Year's Eve, but had to ring in the New Year with hope and faith instead of an album!).
Rappin' for God, featuring Blizard and Bishop, debuts Jarvis Smith as a producer for AmericanClassicRecordings.com
And now let's here from Cheyenne Poole, manager for the artists since their earliest days :)
“Rappin' for God is a debut album for Blizard and Bishop, but they have been rapping since they were little boys. They used to watch the other rappers on TV, and they decided that they wanted to make a career out of rapping, with God in their hearts, so they could give young people some positive role models. They recorded these tracks with Andy Pow.
Bishop, who is 18, graduated from Pine Forest High School in June 2006. He always encourages Blizard to do well in school, and they practice their music every day. Blizard, who is 14, goes to Springlake Middle School, where he has been getting all As and Bs. They are excited to be signed by American Classic Recordings.”

There Could Be No Greater Honor Than This Testimony of a Soldier Devoted to Our Freedom
Thank you, Mrs. Lajoux for your thoughts and gratitude that you have expressed in your wonderful song of thanks and dedication to all of my brothers in arms in the field and back in garrison waiting to be deployed back. I am an Army Infantry soldier and have been in the service since 1979 when I joined to get our people back from Iran but we were not allowed to then. I got out of the Army in 01 and woke up
one morning in September and turn on the tube and the next day gave back my retirement to reenlist to fight this scourge of humanity and even though there has been many close calls and many friends lost since and with the knowledge that I may pay the ultimate price myself, the values that you have said so well in your song will keep me driving on. It takes a lot to make these jaded old eyes to tear up, God knows they have seen many bad and painfull things over the years but your song
made me do just that. I hold a deep respect and love for those like you in our great nation and will continue to serve her until we are all safe and free of the threat of terror and those who would surely destroy our way of life. Let me leave with this line that I learned from my first Ranger DI who served in Korea and Vietnam and maybe you can understand more than you already do as to why I fight and
serve.
"Men and Woman sleep more soundly in their beds at night because hard men are willing to do violence on their behalf."
That is a statement made by Sir Winston Churchill back in WWII. I am proud to be one of those men on your behalf and on all of America's behalf. Thank you once again for your faith and gratitude for our service I think I am safe to say it for all of us in this historic struggle.
Your servant,
Sgt. Russell E. Massey

Poem for the Fallen
In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Set to music by American Composer Charles Ives (1874-1954)
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

A Message from Freddie Johnson to Encourage Musicians of Faith
I want to share with you what the Holy Ghost
has communicated to me concerning the music He gave to me.
Almighty Jehovah's perfect will and plan is so infinitely detailed that it's simply beyond us to comprehend it. In addition, His concept of 'success' is usually vastly different from ours. Even though we are saved we still are bound by human frailties.
Our values were formed by the standards of the world and they continue to be influenced by the data we stored up prior to becoming reborn.
I have spent the last year occasionally wondering and asking the Lord, "Why haven't you caused the cd to be a huge financial success?" I didn't ask that question because I want to be rich. No, I would like to have a lot of money so that I could help some others. However, I will admit that I'm still carnal enough to have to deal with the tempting, but erroneous belief that commercial success would somehow
'validate' me as an artist because humans are taught to believe that financial gain usually represents success.
The fact that the cd is not yet commercially successful does not by any means preclude the possibility that it may very well become so as a part of His plan.
Perhaps it is not His time yet. Or perhaps it will never be commercially/financially successful. What He has caused me to comprehend is that if it never makes a dime and if I suffer
great hardship and privation in life, yet, discover on judgment day that one or more souls are in the kingdom of God as a result of The Big House On Gold Street, it will have been worth it all! That would constitute success in God's eyes.
So, what I'm saying is that you and I have a desire to see the music God has entrusted to us become wildly successful, and such a desire is perfectly acceptable to the Lord Jesus as long as we are at peace within our hearts with the knowledge that He will do what is best, although not necessarily what we desire. Of course, it is entirely possible that the two are one.
A great preacher of fundamentalist bent, Ergun Caner, once said, "Christianity has always ridden on the backs of the small and anonomous."
Yes, the unsung heros won't be unveiled until judgment day. We have done the best we know to do and our motives are acceptable to our Lord and Savior.
Whatever happens, or doesn't happen, should not be overly important to us.Important, yes. But not overly so because we are trusting Christ with what we have committed to Him. And He can do anything except something wrong.
We must neither allow Satan, or our own fleshly natures, to deceive and discourage us, and believe me, both are trying their best to do just that and they will continue their efforts. We must press on toward the higher calling, knowing Who holds our future and seeking His will, not ours. Remember, what we can't see is infinitely more real and important than what we can see.

MUCH MORE MUSIC TO COME!
Sheet Music for ACR Tunes Now Available
Would you like to play one of our songs at your next concert?
Sheet music is now available for the following songs:
FROM MY COUNTRY
Borderline
Heart on My Sleeve
My Man
Just Not Now
One Shoe
Every Mountaintop
Daddy's Crown
Mi Teddy
Who's Walkin' Who?
Magdalena - Coming Back
Good Guys
Get Up and Go
We Thank You
Song themes in MY COUNTRY include trials of codependency ("Borderline"), heartbreak and healing ("Heart on My Sleeve," "Just Not Now"), joys of adoption ("Mi Teddy"), anguish of temptation ("My Man"), despair of addiction and hope of recovery ("One Shoe," "Every Mountaintop"), a changing neighborhood seen in walks with a faithful dog ("Who's Walkin' Who"), zeal for worship and service ("Get Up and Go"), and the nature of true love--seen in Jesus's love for Mary Magdalene: "Magdalena: Coming Back" is the Christian answer to the Da Vinci code! The secret bonus rockabilly track about scorned love could make you laugh or cry, depending.
FROM DAY OF PRAISE
Holy Spirit
